WHAT IS THIN THREAD MESH?

Thin thread mesh simply means the threads in the screen are “thinner” than normal. For example, a typical 158 mesh has 64-micron thick threads, but with thin thread, they’re only 48 microns thick. That might seem like a small difference, but it actually makes a big impact. With thin thread, there’s more open space in the mesh, which makes it easier for the ink to flow through.

With more open space, you don’t have to push the ink through as hard. This means less effort for you and a smoother printing process overall. That’s a huge plus, especially if you’re printing by hand!


WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIN THREAD

  1. EASIER INK FLOW
    With thin thread mesh, ink flows through the screen more easily because there’s more open space. You won’t need as much pressure when using your squeegee, which saves you energy. Plus, when ink sits on top of the fabric instead of sinking into it, your prints will look brighter and more solid—especially when printing light ink onto dark fabric.

HOW TO MAKE THIN THREAD MESH WORK FOR YOU

  • KEEP YOUR SCREENS CLEAN AND SAFE
    Store your screens in a clean area and avoid stacking them on rough surfaces. A clean and organized shop helps prevent damage to your mesh.
  • CHECK YOUR TOOLS
    Look at your squeegees and other tools often. If they have sharp or rough edges, they could tear your mesh. Make sure everything is smooth and safe to use.
  • WATCH YOUR TENSION
    Thin thread mesh can’t handle the same tension as thicker threads. If you are asking for high tension screens or stretching your own: Be careful not to overstretch it. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the best results.
  • For Multi Color designs: PICK THE RIGHT TENSIONS
    To avoid problems, choose mesh counts that are 1 to 2 Newtons apart. This helps keep your prints looking sharp and prevents screen distortion.
