In screen printing, your print shop's ability to quickly make color adjustments or to match requested color shades can either make or break a sale. Include high volume production and the ability to print wet on wet and you are narrowing the playing field even more. Your mixing system is as much a sales tool as it is an ink you print with. The Wilflex Rio Mixing system and the IMS 3.0 mixing system are powerful tools that help you quickly mix your desired Pantone solid-coated color simulation.
EFFORTLESS COLOR MIXING
The Rio Ink Mixing System was created with several fundamental principles in mind: To have high opacity, be easy to print, be able to match all the PMS colors, and create bright and vivid prints. Whether you're striving for vibrant designs or subtle nuances, this system provides the versatility to bring your creative visions to life.
To achieve the aforementioned features, Wilflex uses 18 different mixing colors including white, black, and five high-coverage fluorescent inks.
Please Note: Wilflex calls PMS mixes “simulations” of the Pantone color. Each print shop has its own unique process for weighing out the ink, printing the ink, and creating various ink deposit thicknesses. The varying processes make true color accuracy difficult to maintain from print shop to print shop, hence why the ink brand calls PMS colors “simulations” rather than exact Pantone matches.

THE MIXING INTERFACE
To harness the power of the Wilflex Epic Rio Plastisol Ink Mixing System, you'll utilize the IMS Mixing Software. Depending on your platform (PC, mobile, or Mac), you'll encounter different versions of this software. It's essential to create an account and gain approval before embarking on any mixing endeavors with the Rio System. Once you've accessed the software, you can easily select the Wilflex ink systems and choose the Rio Mixing System to kickstart your color journey.
Please Note: The mixing system interface is different between a PC and a mobile version. While both versions give you clear access to the Pantone Formulas for coated colors, the PC version has all the versatility you could ever ask for.
MIXING CUSTOM COLORS
Creating custom colors has never been simpler. Armed with a scale, spatulas, a Pantone Solid Coated book, and mixing containers, you're ready to dive into the world of color customization. Select your desired Pantone color, weigh out the appropriate amount in grams, and add it to your container. Ensure you maintain a clean workspace by cleaning your spatula regularly or using separate spatulas for each color to prevent contamination. Once all your chosen colors are in their respective containers, use a clean spatula to thoroughly mix each ink, scraping the sides and bottom to guarantee a homogeneous blend.
If you have ever mixed two or more colors together, then you have a basic familiarity with how mixing a Pantone color works.
